8 WAYS TO START YOUR MORNING OUT RIGHT

Beginning a great morning the night before is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Do whatever you can the night before so your morning is less rushed. Here’s a few ways you can do that.

1. Set a bedtime and wake up time.

Have a bedtime and stick to it. Most kids will need from 10 to 12 hours of sleep each night. Our kids wake up time is 7 a.m. so their bedtime is 8 p.m. Your kids will wake up refreshed and ready for the new day when they have gotten a good full nights rest.

2. Set out your clothes.

Choosing an outfit in the morning can take time… much quicker if it’s ready for you the night before.

3. Make your to-do list for the next day.

Leave out your to do list and materials needed to accomplish your tasks for the next day ready.

Have your devotional ready: Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

4. Do a quick tidy of the school room/ materials.

5. Charge up all electronics.

Charge up laptops, ipads, tables, phones needed for the next day.

6. Set up extra materials.

Since we are relying on the internet for instruction, it’s a good idea to have some extra reading, math & art materials ready to go just in case your child’s day get’s interrupted due to “tech” issues. We want to ensure they have a steady pace and no idle time.

7. Plan meals for the next day.

Plan out breakfast, lunch and dinner the night before. When preparing dinner, it may be a good idea to make some extra to have for lunch the next day.

8. Talk to your kids about their day.

Starting and ending your day with a grateful heart is super motivating. Sit with your kids and reflect on great things from the day and things they are looking forward to.

Have them express any concerns they may have, together pray over these things, and find the best solution on how to move forward.

Morning Routine

Keeping a morning routine grounded in the LORD is essential in giving kids a strong start to their morning.

1. Wake up time.

Set a strict wake up time and stick to it. 5 more minutes for you or the kids does more harm than good.

2. Morning chores/ routine for the kiddos.

1. Each of my kids have a small morning chore each morning. One empties the dishwasher, the other throws away garbage and waters the plants, and the smallest one helps me make breakfast.

2. Make beds. This one’s so easy, even little ones can do it with a little help.

3. Get dressed.

4. Self care. Teeth, hair, face washed.

3. Make it fun.

Look and find opportunities to infuse fun into your day. Our 3W Church Kids has 3 fundamental principals for everything we do and making things FUN is one of them.

Here are some ideas: Wear a hair net while serving lunch to give them a school feel. (I still only gave them 30 minutes as routine is essential)

Make a “morning announcements” video to start the school day. Click to take a look.

If your child goes to public school they don’t have a Christian component so this is a great opportunity to infuse that in your day.

In most Christian schools in America they not only pledge to the American flag but also to the Christian flag and sometimes the Bible.

Do a morning devotional.

On our 3W Church Kids page you have lots of resources or you can buy a devotional book to do together. My kids are right now doing the devotional book: JESUS CALLING by Sarah Young (amazon link)

Sermon Notes:

Use with kids while they are listening to a service. This resource is a great way to engage your kids in a service while you are also able to take your own personal notes. When using this resource make sure to review with kids prior to using for the first time and separate some time after the sermon to go over their answers and provide clarification.

3W Kids Verse Poster

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. – Deuteronomy 6:6-9

So God commands that His Words shall be written not just upon your heart, but upon all that you see and do throughout the day. You are to talk about them and wear them and write them upon your home. God wants His Words to be with you always and to constantly be there as a reminder of His will and His commands for your life.

Print out some of these posters to place around your house where your children can see them. Challenge each other to memorize them.
